Care Instructions - Larch Wood Canada Professional 'End Grain' Cutting Board Our cutting boards are handcrafted from the indigenous Eastern Canadian Larch by local craftsmen from Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. Your board will last life times if properly cared for. Never submerge in water. Never place in a dishwasher Never leave the board in areas of concentrated heat Never place a hot skillet or pot from a burner or oven directly on the board Never place a hot steamy pot lid directly on your cutting board Maintenance: Your new cutting board should be seasoned to allow it to adapt to your home or work environment. Apply Larch Wood Cutting Board Beeswax and Mineral Oil Conditioner to all surfaces of your board on a weekly basis for the first month. Once the board is seasoned we recommend a monthly treatment to prevent the wood fibers from drying out. To apply, rub a thin coat of the conditioner on the top, sides and bottom with a dry cloth and allow it to absorb. Buff to a shine with a soft dry cloth. Cleaning: Use a moist cloth or sponge to remove any dirt. Sticky residue can be cleaned by using a small amount of mild detergent on the scrubby side of a sponge while holding the board under warm running water. To clean even more thoroughly, apply salt to the board and rub with a sponge that has been dampened with lemon juice. Storage: Do not store the board in a hot place: close to direct sunlight or a heat source. Dry the cutting board carefully before storing in a cupboard. Proudly Made in Canada (Margaree, Nova Scotia) We Are 'End-Grain' Cutting Boards Specialists Founded in 2003, Larch Wood Canada makes Premium Cutting Boards that are as much about the artistry and craftsmanship as the functionality and sustainability. Larch Wood Canada is nestled along the Margaree River and we feel privileged to live, work, and raise our families on Cape Breton Island, Canada. Voted one of world's top island destinations, Cape Breton Island continues to inspire visitors with its gorgeous coastline, wonderful natural areas and diverse culture. We specialize in creating beautiful 'end-grain' cutting boards handmade from eastern Canadian larch (Larix laricina). Also known locally as tamarack and juniper, we source this renewable resource from sustainably managed local woodlots. The beauty and durability of the end grain Larch makes these boards a versatile choice for both cutting and presentation. Self-Healing Surface The durable self-healing end grain/ butcher block construction of our products provides a smooth, impact-resistant, cutting action that is kind to knives - making our cutting boards a practical choice for chefs in busy commercial kitchens or for daily use at home. Our boards are self-healing and long-lasting. The vertically aligned wood fibers separate to accept the knife and close up after cutting. Remember to condition your board on a regular basis to keep the fibers flexible. The flexible end grain will self-cleanse and squeeze out any excess color, bacteria, or food, and the rubber feet prevent moisture from getting trapped. Besides its magical healing properties - the board has intricate gradients and patterns that you’ll enjoy by cutting across the growth rings. Our heirloom quality boards are also easy on knives and resists nicks and gouges. Our customers, including world renowned chefs, praise the density of our "end-grain" design because it absorbs the impact of blades and even helps keep them sharp. With the proper care, a Larch Wood Canada cutting board is built to last for many years to come. Handcrafted to the Highest Standard The Canadian Larch logs are locally sourced and milled in our own sawmill then kiln dried to our specific specifications. High quality control is achieved because we pay careful attention to detail in our 30-step process from log to finished product. The grain patterning for each board is expertly handpicked to provide a unique look to each board. In the end they are meticulously sanded to 320 grit then oiled and waxed to provide the best finish on the market. We take extreme pride in providing a cutting board that is considered by our customers to be a focal point in their kitchen and a work of functional art. Why Choose Larch Wood? Larch trees grow in abundance on Cape Breton Island. It is a tenacious species that can tolerate less than ideal conditions, like wet or recently disturbed soils. The wood was traditionally used in boat building and for other exterior applications such as decking and fence posts. Noted for its rot resistance, strength and ability to neutralize bacteria, Larch has all the characteristics needed to produce a superior cutting surface. The bold grain patterning and the natural colouring of the larch, along with its renowned durability, was our initial inspiration for handcrafting our cutting boards.
